K12 Gallery for Young People
Artist in Training, Artist in Residence programs
The K12 Gallery for Young People inspires children to create, imagine and grow!
This innovative nonprofit arts organization offers classes, workshops, exhibitions, and special events for children from preschool age through high school. The group offers programs in its combined gallery and workshop in the heart of downtown Dayton and through outreach efforts in schools and public sites throughout the Miami Valley, which are geared toward children of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels—from those with no previous experience in the visual arts to highly accomplished student artists. K12's best measure of success is its budding young artists.
Through responsive grants, the Mathile Family Foundation has provided support for K12's Artist in Training and Artist in Residence programs. The Artist in Training program consists of a series of after-school classes offered throughout the academic year for aspiring artists in grade 7-12. The Artist in Residence service places professional artists in participating schools to teach classes, allowing schools with little or no budget for art instruction to provide this valuable component of a well-rounded education.
"We think about visual arts and ways to reach young people to unlock their creative potential, both in art and in life," said Jerri Stanard, K12 founder and executive director. "Visual arts are a transforming vehicle which instills only the best for each child—greater self-esteem, greater pride and the internal motivation and passion that one needs to move forward in life."
