Parents Advancing Choice in Education

Education (PACE) K-12 Scholarship Program

Greater Dayton One mother said it best: "PACE has stood by our family every step of the journey…What a Blessing!"

PACE strives to empower parents to give their children the best possible education, even in the case of severe financial difficulty. Each year, the organization distributes hundreds of scholarships that enable children from kindergarten through high school to enroll in private or religious schools. Through its Parents Network, PACE also helps connect families, of all backgrounds, to play an active role in their children's education.

The Mathile Family Foundation has long supported PACE and its goals of improving education for children and creating a strong sense of community among parents. In 2007, the Foundation deepened its partnership with PACE by providing a Community Award of $2 million to greatly extend the organization's scholarship program. Each year, thousands of families must be placed on a waiting list for a limited number of scholarships. To address this significant need, PACE decided to launch a dedicated, long-term effort to include more families and ultimately eliminate the waiting list.

The first component of this effort extends the existing PACE scholarship program to more low-income families, while adding some funding for students entering college. The second component consists of a new 3-year endeavor to assist low-income urban families who want to provide a quality Catholic education for their children. The Mary Queen of Peace Scholarship Program not only brings an excellent religious education within reach of many families in need, but it also serves to strengthen and sustain urban Catholic education as a vital, longstanding presence in our community.

Another grateful parent added, "This will help so much in giving my children a strong solid Catholic education, a great start for their life achievements."
